“After operating for six years, Ski Dubai obviously offered a lot of fun to our guests, and we felt that it was a great point in time to start educating people and bringing awareness about issues around the world and our environment and so forth. And we found that the birds, together with SeaWorld our partner, were a great point to allow our guests to learn about the environment and our surroundings.”

But this is a place, in the bustling city of Dubai to try to connect people to nature. So for me it was a perfect place to try to create that awareness of where these amazing birds live, the Antarctic.”

LEADIN :
Twenty penguins are settling in to their new home – Dubai – one of the hottest places in the world.
They’re sharing their new home with skiers and snow boarders at one of the emirates indoor ski slopes.
STORYLINE:
These penguins are getting used to their new home. This isn’t Antarctica or even a cold country.
This is Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, where temperatures soar and the desert’s scorched by the sun.
The penguins’ new home is part of an indoor ski slope.
The 20 penguins have been imported to Ski Dubai from SeaWorld in the USA.
Raised by humans the penguins are part of an international breeding programme.
The ski slope is looking to expand its activities to include not just skiing and snow boarding but also penguin encounters.
Members of the public will be able to pay to spend time with a penguin, have their pictures taken and learn about the birds.
All snow park visitors get to witness the penguins at play at certain times of the day.
Trainers from different parts of the world have been hired to lead the penguin programmes and look after the birds.
Ehadeer Al Shayeb is from Kuwait. She says she is thrilled to be able to see the penguins up close.
