Guru Nanak Darbar is a Sikh gurdwara (place of worship) in Jebel Ali Village, Dubai, established in 2012 to serve the more than 50,000 Sikh residents in the emirate.[1][2][3][4] The community-run gurdwara is the first official Sikh temple in the GCC region and the Middle East, and was founded in 1976 by Surinder Singh Kandhari, a resident of Dubai.[1][3][5][4]

Guru Nanak Darbar entered the Guinness World Records in April 2017 after serving breakfast to over 600 people from 101 nationalities.

Guru Nanak Darbar was established on 120,000 square feet of land.

The venue was designed by Dubai-based architect firm Holford Associates with the advice of UK-based Richard Adams. Architects were made to visit shrines in different parts of the world for inspiration.

Construction work began in May 2008, the foundation was laid in June 2010, and the three-story structure was completed in December 2011. The Sikh community in the UAE had demanded a 100-year guarantee from the contractor so that future generations could continue to use it.
The total cost of construction work was 65 million dirhams (about $20 million),[10][9] and it opened its doors to worshipers and tourists, including tourists, on 17 January 2012 in a ceremony attended by 50,000 pilgrims. It was funded by people of various religions and nationalities as the year of construction, 2008, saw a severe economic crisis.

The beige colored Guru Nanak Darbar is a blend of modern and traditional Sikh building styles.[13] It has three levels of underground car parks and two above ground, and each basement has an area of ​​25,000 square feet to accommodate 140 cars.[ 13]

The ground floor (21,000 square feet) contains the reception desk, shrine office, a dining hall, a kitchen, a pantry and store room. There are also comfort rooms, a headscarf stand, shoe storage area, Zora house facilities in several parts of the building.

The facade of the building has a 54-meter parikarama with traditional grill work, and a water body surrounds part of the building like the Harmandir Sahib tank.

Stairs inside the temple can carry a large traffic of people in both directions, and there are also lifts.

The prayer hall on the first floor has Italian marble on the walls and floor, chandeliers from Murano, Italy, and a purple carpet. It also has 24-carat gold canopies for the Guru Granth Sahib, and in the centre, a towering pillar with carved gold-plated pillars and topped by a gold-plated lotus-shaped dome. The dome is lined with a piece of cloth edged with gold.

Guru Nanak Darbar conducts three-hour classes on Saturdays to teach children Punjabi, Kirtan and Gurdara protocol.

The temple also attracts tourists from all over the world and saw 800,000 visitors eat from its community kitchen each year.40 The kitchen served about 1,500 people on a normal day and 50,000 during special events, but It has been closed since April 2020 due to security reasons.
