Dubai has unveiled plans for what could become the world’s largest coastal regeneration initiative. Named Dubai Mangroves, the ambitious project proposed by developer URB would extend over 72 kilometres of revitalised coastline adorned with 100 million newly planted mangrove trees. Currently in the design and research phase, the initiative seeks to bolster Dubai’s marine biodiversity, reshape its coastal landscape, and generate 10,000 jobs in eco-tourism. The project would also enhance the region’s seagrass beds and coral reefs. Ongoing research is spread across six pilot zones in Dubai, including Jebel Ali Beach, Dubai Marina Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach, Umm Suqeim Beach, and Dubai Islands Beach.
