Updated: March 14, 2024

The Dubai Malls Aquarium and Discovery Centre is a key centerpiece of the city’s sprawling tourism industry. The Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest tanks in the world developed, operated by Oceanis Australia Group and it officially holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s “Largest Acrylic Panel”. The 750 mm thick acrylic viewing panel is built to withstand pressure of 10 million litres of water, yet its transparency gives visitors clear views. The aquarium has more than 33,000 living animals, representing more than 85 species including over 400 sharks and rays in total. The aquarium and underwater stands at an enormous 51m x 20m x 11m and featuring the worlds largest viewing panel at 32.8m wide and 8.3m high. The features of the aquarium include a 270-degree acrylic walkthrough tunnel on themes such as Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean environments at the Underwater Zoo. Here, one can experience an incredible close-encounter with some of the most mesmerizing underwater animals on the planet like dangerous Piranha, Giant Catfish, playful Otters, a Humbolt Penguin colony, and more. And there’s this ‘lunar-cyclic’ lighting system which automatically changes the ambience of the tank depending on the time of day. Whether viewing the Rainforest from a suspension bridge high above the river and tree canopy, or reaching out and touching some of the more hardy rock pool inhabitants, this is an aquatic experience you will never forget.
