Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is home to thousands of aquatic animals, comprising over 140 species. Over 400 Sharks and Rays live in our 10 million litre tank, including Sand Tiger Sharks, Giant Groupers, and a host of other marine species. A series of carefully designed experiences will allow our visitors to come face to face with our aquatic residents for memorable moments with friends and family.

This family-friendly experience will educate guests about shark species as well as how the creatures are taken care of at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. The educational content will be all about their environment, feeding, and breeding habits while visitors also get to go behind the scenes in assisting the aquarium staff in training Bamboo Sharks and Leopard Sharks. Submerged to about waist height in waterproof waders, visitors can get into the tank for a unique “trainer” experience and interact with the sharks.

In 2010, Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo was the first facility in the region to introduce Gentoo penguins. The flightless charismatic birds are brought back today through an ultra modern exhibit and an encounter that will enhance the visitors experience like no other, thus setting a new benchmark. The Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo Gentoo penguins came from a facility in the USA, in the wild, they can be found in their natural habitat around the Antarctic peninsula and sub Antarctic islands. We have a purpose built temperature controlled facility to replicate the sub Antarctic environmental conditions. Our air temperature is kept between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius and our water temperature is between 5 and 7 degrees. We also have a special lighting system that replicates their annual light cycle. Penguin winter time is during our summer! The exhibit is multi-level and has lots of exciting areas for the penguins to climb on and explore, including a slide into the pool. Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is home to a total of 16 beautiful Gentoo penguins – 8 male, 8 female. A visit to the “Penguin Cove” will be part of the Aqua Nursery experiences tickets as a first step until the launch of the “Penguin Encounter” by early August. The all-new immersive encounter allows guests to step inside the Penguin Cove habitat and go face-to-feather with the colony of live Gentoo penguins while learning about their fascinating natural behaviors.

Weighing in at a whopping 750 kg and measuring over 5m in length, this massive 40-year-old creature is originally native to Australia and is a wonder of the animal kingdom. Originally spotted measuring only 2.4m in length and dubbed a ‘problem’ crocodile by the locals, the soon to be King Croc was quickly moved from the Botanic Gardens that he had taken over, to a more protected environment located in Queensland, Australia. Regular meals and a protected environment provided King Croc with the perfect conditions to become one of nature’s most feared and powerful reptiles to ever live. Already one of the largest in the world, King Croc is expected to grow much bigger over the next 50 years. The giant reptile is 40 years old and weighs in at an impressive 750kg. He’s joined by his female companion ‘Queen Croc’ who is over 80 years old!

Experience a breath-taking view of the deep through our Glass-Bottom Boat rides at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. You and your friends can ride on the surface of the world’s largest suspended tank containing 10 million liters of water. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of over 33,000 aquatic animals, featuring over 70 species, including sharks and rays! All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy your guided tour. For Glass-Bottom Boat Rides, make your way to Underwater Zoo on Level 2. Rides depart every 10 to 20 minutes. With a capacity of 10 people per boat, departure times are subject to availability.
