Al Marmoom Desert
The Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the country’s first unfenced nature reserve. It covers roughly 10% of Dubai’s total land area and is located in the desert area of Saih Al Salam. It was founded in January 2018.

Attractions and activities
Al Qudra Lakes: These man-made desert wetlands are a haven for migratory birds and other wildlife, including flamingos. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching from observation platforms or have a picnic by the serene waters.
Al Qudra Cycling Track: This 86km track is one of the world’s largest cycling tracks and offers a unique way to experience the desert landscape.
Al Marmoom Heritage Village: Here, visitors can explore Bedouin culture, witness traditional activities like falconry and camel rides, and experience an authentic desert camp with cultural performances and cuisine.
Saruq Al Hadid Archaeological Site: Located within the reserve, this site dates back 3,000 years to the Iron Age and showcases the region’s rich history.
Camel Racing: During the winter season, visitors can witness the excitement of traditional camel races at the Al Marmoom Camel Race Track.
Stargazing: The clear desert skies provide an excellent opportunity for stargazing, and guided tours are available to enhance the experience.
Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Park: This is the largest single-site renewable energy project in the region.
Wildlife and conservation
The reserve is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including:
26 identified species of reptiles
9 species of mammals, including gazelles, camels, and the endangered Arabian Oryx
39 species of plants
Over 360 bird species, including flamingos and endangered species like the Steppe Eagle
Rare species like the Egyptian Nightjar and the giant skipper butterfly
Important information
The best time to visit Al Marmoom is during the cooler months, from October to March.
While most areas are accessible by 2WD vehicles, some parts of the reserve may require a 4WD.
Al Marmoom can be reached by private car or taxi as it is not connected by public transport.
Camping and barbecuing are permitted within the reserve.
Visitors should be respectful of the local wildlife and avoid disturbing their natural habitat
