A glimpse of Hatta Dam (Dubai, UAE) Updated for 2024

Updated: April 11, 2024

Hatta is an exclave of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, high in the Hajar Mountains. The restored, centuries-old Hatta Heritage Village features a defensive tower, stone houses with palm-frond roofs, and falaj, the traditional water system. Other exhibits include traditional weapons, furniture and crockery. At the nearby Hatta Dam, the Hatta Reservoir Visitor Point overlooks the pools of striking green water.

Hatta Dam – A barrier for collecting rainwater was built by the Government of Dubai in 1975, in additional to many other dams in Hatta. And by the end of the nineties of the last century, the Government of Dubai built the Great Dam of Hatta in the same location to become one of the largest water dams in terms of capacity in the GCC. The dam was build for the purpose of conserving the water resource, as a result of rainfall, and storing it for later purposes, whether for drinking or irrigation, as well as reinforcing the groundwater reserves in Hatta and protecting the area from the possible dangers that result from heavy rainfall and the flow of the Great Hatta Valley. Today, the Hatta Dam is considered one of the important natural landmarks in the UAE and Dubai.
