Updated: February 19, 2024

Expo 2020 Dubai is nearly 18 months away from opening its doors, and a crucial aspect of the mega-event’s transport infrastructure is Route 2020, Dubai Metro Red Line’s extension to the Expo 2020 Dubai site.

According to an announcement by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the line is 70% complete.

Route 2020 spans 15km from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station to the World Expo’s site, and comprises 11.8km of elevated and 3.2km of underground track.

According to an RTA announcement in March 2019, the completion rate of track work on the line has hit 80%, while 50% to 60% of station works have finished.

The Expo 2020 Dubai station in Route 2020 is also 50% complete, with 90% of the station’s metal structures installed.
